In Contextual Studies we moved onto Art Nouveau so saw how it was influenced, what
artist there were and also how architecture, art etc is how it is today.
We looked at Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Antoni Gaudi (Barcelona Architect) and
other people as well.
Also explored at the start that Japan had a big influence in Art Nouveau especially that
of printmakers and textiles. One of the people that were mentioned was Hokusai,
Graham told us that art and architetcure how it is today probably would not have been.
Especially modern architecture and so on. He also mentioned that negative space is important
and exmaple he gave was a house with sliding doors like maybe a tea house. With the sliding
doors it would allow one room to be connected to the other, creating one large room once
the door is open. His explanation was that both positive and negative space are needed and work
similar to that of Ying and Yang.
