Art Gallery

hello

I am so tired,  today have been walking around so much
my feet are killing me!
Had to meet with my two buddies at the Art Gallery
again!
Yes, again, I did not mind it so badly, but it was a little annoying when
trying to catch a bus, and stand at the bus stop for a good 30 minutes
for just 3 buses to come that are packed out so do not even stop.

Anyhow, we had to go to the art gallery for looking at two painting at least
with a 100 years differnce between them. Me and my friends picked different paintings.
I wrote about three paintings because I liked them all. We were looking at
the paintings in so much detail, zooming into paintings and taking pictures for our research
and analysis.
The three paintings I chose were...
"The Death of Chatterton" which displays a real event of a young men
17 years old who committed suicide, his name Thomas Chatterton. He was a forger and a poet.
The painter is Henry Wallis, who painted it in 1855-1856.
I liked the painting because of the use of colour and how it is painted.
The face no-one would have thought when looking at it, that the young men is dead,
but is sleeping soundly instead. So it was interesting how the man who lies on
his scruffy bed, exposing the pale white skin with the bright red hair and trousers and white shirt.
To make this painting, he had to use a model who was George Meredith, afamous young novelist and poet.

The second painting I liked was
"Hope Comforting Love in Bondage" which was painted by Sidney Harold Meteyard in 1901.
His work was based on flowers, imagination and myths.
I liked that image because it had vibrant colours, the red, gold and greens, made it look quiet interesting.
Also the winged young man facial expression were interesting with its wings being
entwined in roses and thorns. It kind of showed a lot of love, and the pain involved in loving.

 The third painting was called
"L'Aurore et la Nuit (Dawn and the Night)"
The painter Henri Fantin Latour, who painted mythological and allegorcial subjects.
He painted Dawn and the Night in 1894.
I liked the painting because the brush strockes are dynamic and have
a good effect with the painting itself. The female figures and the angels cannot be seen clearly from clsoe up, but can be viewed nicely while standing away a little bit.

Well it was a long day. But it also was fun to learn about the images and seeing them close up.

Art Foundation: Fine Art

hello

Today was a long day and I tried my hardest to take the
chance to complete as much work as possible.
I have cut up my chess pieces so they are split into half vertically.
Those chess pieces will act as people and the reason for cutting them
into half was to create a crack which I saw as CRACK IN SOCIETY.

I than went on creating a test piece, using card board to create a sphere.
The idea was to use CDs to do that, so I wanted to test it out first on card board.
It was easy to do with the card, but when it came to the CDs it was harder
than I thought it would be. Cutting the CDs into half was quiet messy but easy.
Well I did complete it half way, but I have to do some changes to it as well,
which I will how to experiment on later.

Art Foundation: Visual Studies

hey,

In visual studies we started to draw with colour pastels to give texture and shade
with them.
The items were palced on a table, the items themselves were real and edible,
although I cannot say anything about the plastic glass that contains a red pink liquid.
I thought at first it was a water and juice mixture, but who knows what it was.
We had to draw the tiny glass with those tiny cakes onto A1 paper. So I covered the whole page
but the work is still incomplete.
It was hard to get the exact colour with the pastels, but it did start to take shape
which was good.
Overall I think it was a fun lesson, drawing those tiny things 20 times bigger than they were.
However working with pastels can really get messy...

Art Foundation: Digital Apps

hi...

Digital application today was fun, my work was picked on to discuss, as I
made this morning another test piece for my ZINE (personal agenda a poster that
contains a message, but does not have to make sense to everyone), which I thought
was okay but not as good as my first draft which had the GazettE on.
Although Adam (lecturer) liked it and thought the use of colours and shapes were good,
he wanted me to make changes on it, to make it more obvious to what it is about.
As I mentioned last time my ZINE contains a mixture of Architecture and Visual Kei,
showing how those two are similar.
I preferred my first draft of the ZINE and so went back to that insted to make some changes
to it.
The ZINE is still incomplete but it is getting there, so hopefully I get it done by soon
and I hope it will look good when all my ideas are on that ZINE.

Art Foundation: Contextual Studies

Contextual Studies with Graham is always a lot of talking while
trying not to fall asleep in his so called pit (his classroom) that was freezing cold.As we have to write an essay about two painting or two sculptures,
we were analysing a painting as a whole class, so we would get an idea
on how to view those pieces that we would choose in the art gallery. The painting that we were looking at was The Ghant Altarpiece c1432.
It is located in St. Bavon Cathedral in Belgium and was painted by Jan Van Eyck. The painting has an interpanel and an external panel, both sides are painted
and are connected together as frames.
The inside of the painting shows 2 levels one upper and lower which can be
classed as Heaven and Earth.
The upper panel look at different view points, while the lower seems to look at the
same place only viwed in 5 different windows. The colours that are used make it
look very rich. The painting itself is symmetrical and so its form leads the viewer intothe context of the painting.Looking at the upper half and lower half books can be found everywhere, and at the bottom
a lamb can be seen on a sacrifical table. The lamb is there to represent Christ when
Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, and sinned. This is the only way to gain redemption
for all the people who have sinned due to the original sin by Adam and Eve. The lamb
is vital at that time because clothes were prodcued from wool and therefore it was a
high importance in the economic community, it was the heart of the community. The external panel is not as glorious as the inside is. The painting contains two statues
stating to be the angel Gabriel and Mary, telling her that she is going to have theson of God.On the lower half there were also two statues, and on the left there is a man standing in red.
and a woman on the right. Those apparently are the most important people on the painting
itself, even though they are at the front of the painting. This is because they were the ones
who commisioned the painting in the first place. The man was a wealthy cloth merchant, and so
ordered to make this painting because they had no children. Usually when the parents die their
own children would pray for them to get into heaven. However as they did not have any they
commisioned this painting for the redemption of souls.Another thing that many might not have noticed is that each and every womans face in this
painting as well as any other painting of an artist would look all the same. The reason
for that is that man thought woman as "EVIL"due to Eve who made Adam eat the
forbidden fruit-the original sin came as an outcome of that action. This is how HISTORY
tells us, and thinking about it correctly, at that time "MEN" would do the writing of books.
Woman would be seen as unimportant and therefore painted the same as any other woman,
angel, fairy or whatever it may be. Yes well the painting took a real good turn into Christianity, and seemed a lot like areligious study lessonWell it was interesting how by looking at the painting so much information could be gained. I think that was a good thing on how I can look at the paintings that I will choose.

Art Foundation: Digital Apps

helloo,

to let you know I am feeling a lot better today still am coughing ,
but am able to concentrate on work now atleast.
This morning at college I had ICT, with Jackie our lecturer.
The lesson is a little boring as we just learn how to use Adobe Photoshop
for our work, so we can make it look interesting and so on.
Well having had that lesson I took my time to enjoy myself feeling a little
better, unlike my friend Zulfikar who seemed to be getting worse, poor him.

I have not written yet about my Digital Application lessons. Well in them
we are creating a ZINE (a personal agenda, somethign that makes sense to you,
has a message, but does not have to make to everyone else). Anyhow I am concentrating
on Architecture and Visaul Kei. Both are things that I like a lot, and Architecture is
something that I wanna study at University.
I really only came up with the idea of showing how those two opposite ends are not so
different as everyone might tink, by my own emotions when I create something. I normally
listen to music on my ipod and come up with ideas, and most of the time its artist like
the GazettE, HYDE, Gackt, Merry well the list is endless
I was listening to TAION ages abck and wanted to know how the GazettE came up with
this song. I than learned about the girl that was kidnapped raped and done even more disturbing
things to, that the vocalist RUKI at the age of 6 had heard about. Apparently the whole band always went emotional when performing that song. Visual Kei shows emotion in both music and appearance and that same link I drew out to say that ARCHITECTURE AND VISUAL KEI are the same!!

I elaborated on that and made a mood board (size A1) with images and drawing of my
favourite buildings and Visual Kei Artists ... I wrote down the connections
between them and how they even link back to society and every human being.

I wrote down in my sketchbook Visual Kei and Architecture in Japanese, therefore
I used those images to manipulate them together with images of artist. I ended up with
a rough design of my ZINE.
I did not use any filters in Adobe Photoshop CS5, I craeted the effects myself by using brightness and contrast and trying to overlap the images to see what colours will appear when
changing it to MULTIPLY for example.

This is the image of the DRAFT ZINE:

I used different colours on purpose to make it stand out, and the colours also can be seen as emotions of people/artist etc.
